ABOUT DR. CANTWELLDr. Cantwell

 

Michael F. Cantwell MD, MPH practices holistic medicine at the Health and Healing Clinic of the Institute for Health and Healing of California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases.  After receiving his Master’s in Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of California at Berkeley, he was a Geographic Medicine Fellow at the Stanford University Regional Center in Chiapas, Mexico. Dr. Cantwell then became an Epidemiology Intelligence Officer in the Tuberculosis Control Branch of the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia.  He has been at the Health and Healing Clinic since 1997 and has been Lead Physician there from 1998-2003 and 2007-present. From 1999-2003, he served on the first National Advisory Council for the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. He has over 20 years’ experience and continues to work part-time as a pediatric hospitalist.


Dr. Cantwell's training in Complementary/Alternative Medicine includes work with dietary interventions, nutritional supplements, and Western herbal therapy. Dr. Cantwell is certified in hypnotherapy and has training in other subconscious therapies, such as guided imagery and Eye-Movement Desensitization (EMDR), as well as many different subtle/energetic therapies, including aromatherapy, Flower Essence therapy, homeopathy, Shamanism, Therapeutic Touch, and Reiki (Master).  He is a Quaker and seeks to integrate the physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual aspects of health.
